★ What You'll Learn

This guide covers the essential setup, calibration, and optimization tips for your Ender 3 Pro. Whether you're a beginner or upgrading from an earlier model, you'll find actionable advice to improve print quality and reliability.

By the end: You'll have a calibrated printer, understand slicer settings, and be ready to tackle your first functional prints.

★ Quick Start

First print checklist:

  • Level the bed using paper method (all 4 corners + center)
  • Load filament and purge 20mm
  • Print the included test file or a 20mm calibration cube
  • Adjust first-layer height until filaments fuse but aren't squished

What's in the Box

  • Creality Ender 3 Pro 3D Printer (fully assembled)
  • SD Card with Pre-loaded Files
  • Power Cable
  • Tools (extruder wrench, nozzle cleaner)
  • Quick Start Guide

Optional But Recommended

  • Calibration cube (or print one from the SD card)
  • Thermal tape or PEI sheet for bed adhesion
  • Nozzle cleaning kit (steel wool, needle set)
  • Extra nozzles (0.4mm standard, plus 0.2mm/0.6mm for different use cases)
★ Tip: The included SD card has a calibration cube file - start with that for your first print test.

Bed Leveling Guide

Bed leveling is the most important first step. Your Ender 3 Pro has 9 spring-adjustment points - 4 corners with springs, 5 center points for fine-tuning.

Bed Leveling Pattern (Clockwise from Front-Left):

1. Front-Left
2. Front-Center
3. Front-Right
4. Rear-Right
5. Rear-Center
6. Rear-Left
7. Center
8. Center-Front
9. Center-Rear

Tighten spring = bed moves UP relative to nozzle
Tighten nut = bed moves DOWN relative to nozzle

Terminal
# Ender 3 Pro Bed Leveling Procedure
Home the printer (press knob to select)
Prepare -> Disable Steppers
# Adjust each point with paper test:
# Paper should slide with slight drag
# Front-left corner:
Turn knob clockwise until paper drags
Turn counterclockwise 1/8 turn
# Repeat for all 9 points, working from corners to center

★ Paper Test Method

Use standard 80g paper (like copy paper). Insert between nozzle and bed. Adjust until you feel slight drag when sliding the paper. Too loose = gap (under-extrusion). Too tight = nozzle scraping (jammed filament).

First Print Setup

  1. Level the Bed: Use the spring-adjustment knobs and a piece of paper to check clearance at all four corners and the center.
  2. Calibrate Extruder: Mark 120mm on filament, extrude 100mm, measure remaining and adjust steps/mm.
  3. Set Bed Temperature: Start with 60°C for PLA, 220°C for nozzle.
  4. First Layer Test: Print the included test file or a calibration cube.

Slicer Configuration

Proper slicer settings make a huge difference. Here are tested values for Cura and PrusaSlicer:

Cura / PrusaSlicer Settings (PLA)

Setting Value
Nozzle Diameter0.4mm
Layer Height0.2mm (standard)
Wall Lines3
Top/Bottom Layers6
Infill Density20%
Print Speed60mm/s (infill: 80mm/s)
First Layer Speed20mm/s
Bed Temp60°C
Nozzle Temp200-210°C
Fan Speed100% (after layer 2)
Retraction4.5mm at 50mm/s

filament Comparison

Different filaments require different settings. Here's a quick reference:

Filament Comparison Chart

Filament Nozzle Temp Bed Temp Drying Best For
PLA190-210°C55-65°CNot requiredPrototypes, decorative
PETG230-250°C70-80°C60°C for 4-6 hoursFunctional parts, outdoor
TPU220-240°C40-60°COptionalFlexible parts, seals
ABS230-250°C100-110°C70°C for 2-4 hoursHigh-temp applications
ASA240-260°C90-110°C60°C for 4-6 hoursUV-resistant outdoor

★ First Print Recommendation

Start with PLA at 200°C nozzle and 60°C bed. Use a calibration cube from the SD card to test your settings before printing functional parts.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

IssueSolution
Under-extrusionClean nozzle, increase temp 5-10°C, check extruder tension
Bed adhesionLevel bed, use glue stick or PEI sheet, increase first layer height
StringingIncrease retraction distance, lower print temperature
Layer shiftingTighten belts, reduce print speed, check pulley screws
WarpingIncrease bed temp, use brim/raft, ensure bed is clean
Elephant's footLower bed temp 5°C, increase Z-offset, level bed
